Candidate for Recording Secretary

Brenda Straight <shademtngsp@gmail.com>

I am honored to accept the nomination for the position of Recording Secretary of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America (GSPCA).

The role of the Recording Secretary is fundamental to the integrity and transparency of our organization — ensuring that all meetings of the Board, the Annual Meeting, and committee sessions are clearly and accurately documented. Timely posting of these minutes on our website is essential for keeping our membership informed and connected to the important decisions shaping our club’s direction.

Transparent and concise communication fosters trust and inclusivity. When members understand the actions and discussions of their leadership, they feel more engaged and empowered to participate in the work of the Club. That sense of openness is key to maintaining a vibrant and collaborative community.

My journey with the German Shorthaired Pointer began in the late 1970s, and since then, I’ve been deeply involved in nearly every facet of our sport and breed. I have served as Vice President of the GSPCA, a member of the National Specialty Show Executive Committee, and Top 25 Chairwoman. Additionally, I’ve chaired Specialty Shows for the Minnesota GSPC, Mason Dixon GSPC, and Oregon GSPC. My Shade Mountain GSPs have proudly excelled in Conformation, Field Trials, Hunt Tests, Obedience, and Barn Hunt — earning multiple titles, including a Dual Champion, Master Hunter, National Specialty Show Champion.

Professionally, I am a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Pulmonary Medicine. Nearly 30 years in this demanding field have honed my skills in precision, timely documentation, and attention to detail — all vital attributes for the role of Recording Secretary.

Our club thrives because of its members — individuals with diverse interests but a shared passion for advancing the German Shorthaired Pointer. As Recording Secretary, I will ensure that every member has access to accurate, timely, and transparent records of Board and Committee decisions. I believe informed members are engaged members, and engaged members strengthen the GSPCA.

Thank you for your trust and support. I look forward to continuing to serve our club and its mission with diligence, integrity, and respect for the membership we all represent.
