The German Shorthaired Pointer National specialty show is a dog show which judges only the German Shorthaired Pointer, unlike other dog shows, which are generally referred to as “all-breed” because they are open to all breeds recognized by the sponsoring kennel club. This National event is only held once a year, usually in the month of May.

German Shorthaired Pointers in all their glory are showcased at the Nationals competing in Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Rally, Sweepstakes and Futurity classes. Also included is the Top 25 Gala and Art Auction event, which invites the top GSPs from the calendar year prior, based upon AKC statistical ranking, to compete to determine the Top 25 winner.

A “Best in Show” win at the National Specialty Show is tremendously prestigious, indicating that the winning dog or bitch triumphed at this show, which attracted entries from the most serious GSP fanciers in the country or continent.

Entries come from all over the United States as well as several foreign countries. The show is held in conjunction with the GSPCA Annual Meeting and includes educational programs, health clinics, special events and festive activities, (Like the tippy toe award, and the Margarita tattoo party) which take place throughout the week.

There will be vendors for shopping, usually several silent auctions, a large trophy table, banners flying and ribbons galore. This show features specially designed GSPCA Logo plate trophies offered for each of the placements in all classes, along with the many other trophies and ribbons! This is the show to attend! Fun and camaraderie for all!
