2018 GSPCA election

South East Director: Lynn Rhodes [email lynn]

My love for the breed started in the mid 70s with my first GSP, a solid liver male that I ran in field trials. I was fortunate to learn a lot from many of the great ones, such as Al Sause, Richard (Dick) Johns, and Bill Jolly. I was also a field trial judge back in the day!

In the early 80s I decided to try my hand in the conformation ring. I started with a Weimaraner and my solid liver GSP. The show ring was a wonderful learning experience. I met many great GSP breeders and spent hours listening and learning about their dogs, pedigrees and breeding. I spent much time studying the standard and pedigrees, hoping to produce great GSPs. While understanding there is no perfect dog, my old dog CH Legacys Mr. Personality was “that dog” for me. He won over 15 specialties, including the 50th anniversary for the Eastern GSPC with an entry of over 200 GSPs under esteemed judge Robert Forsyth.

I have the honor of owning a superb foundation bitch, CH Rijaros Wyndswept Fantasy, JH (Miss Faye). Miss Faye’s greatest achievement was producing BIS MBISS GCH Starfields Army Strong V Bulkley, JH, NRD, DM, VC aka “Grant”. Grant has passed on many desirable traits to his get, and has been awarded the GSPCA Show Sire of the year several times.

I have a deep passion for our beloved breed and am involved in showing, field work and dock diving including being a NADD judge. Because being a beginner in the show ring can be intimidating, I enjoy working with the newbies at shows, giving handling tips and teaching about ring procedures. This builds confidence and will hopefully send them home with a desire to return and show again.

I am a long-time member of the Mason Dixon GSP Club, where I've served on the Show Committee and Chaired dock diving events. One interest of mine is to bring new owners into the club. I was happy to see the GSPCA's startup program for New Puppy Buyers. I'd like to see that program expanded to include outreach from the Parent Club directly to the new owners to make them feel welcome in our community.

As the Southeast Region Director, I will strive for transparency between the GSPCA Board and the membership, and I will be the voice for every member in my region. Please feel free to contact me with your questions, suggestions or concerns. A Club is only as good as its active participants, and we can work together to ensure this Club is one that everyone's proud to be part of. I've always had this thought that I like to share with new folks coming into our breed:

We All are Always Learning. The day we stop learning from our fellow breeders and owners is the day we need to walk away.

I would appreciate your vote for South East Director!
