2018 GSPCA election

East Central Director: Becky Feigh [email becky]

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Becky Feigh and I reside in Carmel, Indiana with my husband and fur family. To give you some background information about myself, I bought my first GSP from White River Shorthairs, Char Rutar, in the spring of 1996. That chance meeting at a show 21 years ago has turned into a love affair with the German Shorthaired Pointer breed ever since. Who would have guessed that meeting with Char would turn out to be longtime friends and breeding partners under the White River kennel name 20 plus years later.

In my professional/ personal life, I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture. I currently work for a large Civil & Environmental Engineering firm as a senior project manager. My job duties include handling all aspects of a construction project from start to finish, scheduling, budgeting, project coordination, design, contracts, permitting through cities, etc. I have worked on projects with budgets over $15 million. I am also in my 16th year being a 4-H volunteer leader for my county’s 4-H Dog Project. I am proud to say our county’s 4-H Dog Project is one of the largest in the country with close to 200 kids enrolled each year. I enjoying working with the kids and passing my knowledge and love of training dogs down to them.

My husband and I joined the GSPCA in 1998 and GSPC of Indiana. I attended my first National Specialty Show (NSS) in 1998 and since then have only missed two Nationals. I was very active in the GSPC of Indiana from 1998 to 2005. I served on the Board of Directors, Show & Hunt Test committee and the Secretary/ Treasurer for the club as well. In the last 4 years, I have volunteered for the GSPCA Juniors Committee and assisted with Junior events in conjunction with the National Specialty Show. The committee was successful in raising over $3000 this year for the GSPCA Junior Showmanship Scholarship fund. Early next year I am planning to apply for my AKC Junior Showmanship Judging License. I also have the honor of being selected to judge Puppy & Veteran Sweepstakes at the upcoming 2020 NSS.

In my spare time, I am active in AKC Hunt Tests, Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Canine Good Citizen and dabbled a little training in Tracking. I have also participated in the newer events: GSPCA Water Retrieving and Dock Diving. Participating in Walking Trials, Agility, Barn Hunting and Lure coursing ability trials are on my future bucket list as well. I personally handled and trained my own dogs in all of the events our family participates in with some good successes and some not so good outcomes! Plenty of good stories to share about our trials and triumphs with our Shorthairs!

One of the reasons I am interested in running for the board is to improve the transparency to the “going ons” of the Board. I want to be part of the solution to bring the GSPCA forward in a more positive united direction. The membership has wonderful very talented individuals that I believe can help make the club even better. The trick is to get them more involved and bring the passion back to our breed. I want to be the voice for my region and be able to bring comments, questions or concerns from my regional members and Local Clubs to the GSPCA Board. I would welcome the opportunity to serve the East Central Section- Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee and would greatly appreciate your support!
